The power plant is located in General Roca, Río Negro and was acquired by Grupo Albanesi in 2011.
It has a 130 MW GE gas turbine and a 60 MW GE steam turbine.
It had a 130 MW EGT – Alstom, which was out of service since 2009 due to a failure in the gas turbine that affected the generator. Albanesi carried out works in two different stages. During the first stage the damaged equipment was repaired and the rotor replaced. The second stage involved the conversion to a dual-fuel system which enables to use gas oil as an alternative fuel. For this reason, investments were made in the auxiliary installations, fuel oil tanks and gas station.
Central Térmica Roca started commercial operations in June 2012. A dual-fuel system was set in place in 2013, and the plant is linked to the SADI through the Transcomahue 132kv transmission line.
In 2016 the Power Plant installed a boiler and steam turbine, increasing the efficiency in the generation of electrical energy and expanding the installed capacity to 60 MW.
The Power Plant began its operations in August 2018, reaching 190 MW of installed capacity.
